About

Chipping Norton School

Deep in the Cotswold Hills of West Oxfordshire lies the quaint market town of Chipping Norton.  Here the local comprehensive school recently embarked on building a new, state of the art science block.  In taking on the new build project the Board of Governors recognised that it had to adhere to the Government’s stringent policies of reducing their carbon footprint.  Having weighed up all the options available to them to fulfil the stretching requirements, the school decided that solar photovoltaic (PV) panels were the best option to help them achieve these targets.

In October 2010, JHS Solar Solutions were contracted to assess the options available for installing a solar PV system on the new science block. JHS met with the construction company dealing with the project on-site and conducted their initial site survey. Precise measurements were taken enabling the JHS designer to put together a totally bespoke solar PV system that would not only meet the requirements of the school, but also be the most efficient within the given budget.

The bespoke package designed by JHS will allow the school to receive a minimum of a 10% return on their investment each year for a guaranteed period of 25 years.  The system will reduce the school’s carbon footprint dramatically, helping to ensure that they stick with their mission to give a brighter future for current students and generations to come, by looking after the environment and increasing the school’s income through the receipt of the Feed in Tariff.

The impressive PV array, which sits on the large roof in perfect symmetry, was installed by the highly skilled JHS team in a short time frame. It will not only produce energy to run the many lights, computers and heaters throughout the building, but also earn the school several thousand pounds each year via the Feed in Tariff.
